Fungai meets the Owwtre

About Us

Digital marketing systems for local businesses.

We study local business ecosystems so we can help businesses cut through the noise and get seen by their target audiences.

Our Story

Two decades of helping businesses show up online

Owwtreach grew out of Artist Dynamix, a Western Massachusetts web development and digital marketing agency that has its roots in a student startup launched in a garage in Harare, Zimbabwe in the year 2000.

Fungai Tichawangana launched Artist Dynamix in 2020 after moving to Western Massachusetts in 2018. He had founded and run similar businesses in Harare before that, starting with Venekera Works, launched in 2000 with two friends in a garage in a Mount Pleasant student hostel, across from the University of Zimbabwe

Going Deep On Local

For over two decades, the work was about helping creatives and businesses show up online and actually get results.

In Massachusetts, Fungai became deeply involved with local business ecosystems. He sat on the board of the Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce for 2 years. He helps organize the Western Massachusetts Economic Ecosystem Summits. He serves on the ArtsHub of Western Massachusetts steering committee and is a founding member of the Western MA Arts Advocacy Coalition.

Owwtreach Founder Fungai Tichawangana with Chamber of Commerce members, staff and Survival Center Staff, Jun 2025

Through this work, one thing became very clear: Marketing is evolving. Big national businesses harness new tools and big budgets. Local businesses are expected to compete on the same playing field, but are being left behind.

Marketing for Local Businesses

Most marketing frameworks assume bigger budgets, bigger teams, and more bandwidth than any local business owner actually has.

The advice wasn't designed for the solo business owners or small teams running downtown shops, art studios, community banks, chambers of commerce, shopping districts, shopping malls, tourism destinations, or local service businesses.

Owwtreach is our answer to that gap. We spent over 12 months rebuilding our frameworks and systems, rebranded Artist Dynamix, and Owwtreach was born.

We build, teach, and sell digital marketing systems built specifically for local businesses.

What We Believe

Local economies win when businesses stop competing alone

Good marketing shouldn't require a full-time person to keep it alive. The businesses that show up consistently online aren't necessarily working harder. They've built systems that run without constant attention. That's achievable for any local business, and this is our core focus.

But there's a bigger problem than systems. Local businesses are competing individually against national chains that market collectively, spend collectively, and show up everywhere at once. A downtown business district where every shop is running its own disconnected marketing is leaving enormous visibility on the table. Tenants in a shopping mall, businesses at a tourism destination, vendors at a market: they all have more reach when they coordinate than when they compete.

That's why two of our core frameworks are built specifically around collaboration.

Wide Owwtfrastructure Optimization (WOO)

For destinations, districts, and multi-location businesses. It addresses what happens when the main destination website looks great but the individual businesses underneath it are invisible online. WOO fixes the whole picture, not just the front door. This is designed for Chambers, business improvement districts, shopping malls and economic development organizations.

The Owwtreach Economic Gravity Framework (EGF)

We define Economic Gravity as the measure of how much business a location can attract. The Owwtreach thesis is that it is a function of marketing, more than anything else. Secondly, it is hard for individual businesses to create significant economic gravity. Strategic online alliances that leverage ecosystem synergies can multiply Economic Gravity significantly.

How We Give Back

Twenty percent of our time, on the house

Owwtreach was inspired by creative entrepreneurship and we've never forgotten it. We endeavor to give 20% of our time to two programs that reflect that.

Owwt Lift

Our community support program. We donate time and expertise to arts and culture initiatives across the region: website work, marketing strategy, digital presence support, offered to selected nonprofits and cultural organizations that need it most.

Owwt Wonder

Where we experiment. Not every project needs a commercial outcome. Some of the best ideas come from asking what we'd build if the only constraint was curiosity. Owwt Wonder is the space where we explore those questions, test new approaches, and occasionally build something that didn't exist before.

Both programs are a commitment and a tribute to our roots, to platforms like Itsbho, Zimbo Jam and to Artist Dynamix, that all laid the groundwork for everything we do today.

Meet the Founder

Fungai Tichawangana

Fungai started in digital marketing in the late 1990s while still a student at the University of Zimbabwe. He co-founded one of Zimbabwe's first dedicated web development agencies. Since then he's worked with banks, transport companies, membership organizations, nonprofits, and small businesses across multiple countries.

In Western Massachusetts, he's become a recognizable name in business and civic circles: as a board member of the Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce (2023-2025), a member of the Western Massachusetts Economic Ecosystem Summits Organizing Committee, a steering committee member for the ArtsHub of Western MA, and an Advisor for the Strawdog Writers Guild.

He was also named Alignable's Local Business Person of the Year for Amherst in both 2024 and 2025,

The Team

Committed to serving local business ecosystems

Owwtreach runs lean. We're a small team spread across multiple countries and different time zones. The one standard that unites us is that our work has to move the needle. Our goal is to be the most useful marketing partner a local business has ever had.

What's Up with that Winged Wolf?

Meet the Owwtre

That winged animal in our logo and on so much of our imagery. It's not a wolf. It's an Owwtre. A mythical creature that protects entrepreneurs. The Owwtre is a guardian for business people, small traders, and those who launch their ideas into the world.
